FUGLY Fabric Party

I've been meaning to do this all week - but I'm a drifter - anyway better late than never!
I think that this was a brilliant idea that Lucy had to spread the fuglieness around a bit.  I will never use these and I'm not even sure where they came from, so one of you reading this might as well have it hanging around in your house.

I was going to list what they are - but can't be bothered - as I presume nobody is going to rush out and buy them if they do not win. The one on the right is just under 1/2 yard, the top left is a fat 1/4 and the bottom one is browner than in the picture and is just over 5" by WOF. I don't think Holly Hobbie is FUGLY but I thought I'd throw in one of the fussy cuts. Some of her friends have just emigrated back to America - but that is part of a Mouthy Secret - for now!

One of the newest blogs I have enjoyed reading is by Nat who blogs at Noas' Libellule.  I first started reading this blog because Nat sometimes writes in French - and as I am still trying to learn French then I thought it would be more interesting than my boring Hugo French book!  Nat is very talented with yarn of all sorts.  She currently has some guest bloggers talking about what blogging means to them and her very thoughtfull giveaway is linked to this theme - so pop over and say hi or bonjour from me......and you can find out what this is!

I also did a mini fabric swap with Nat - we were going to swap scraps....but neither of us had any! Here is the lovely fabric she sent me - don't you just love the monkey?

Pirate Quilt

When Mr ID drew these diagrams of a quilt he wanted based on the Cowboy Quilt in The Material Obsession Book - how could I resist making it?
The fabric from FabricWorm is Riley Blake by Emily Taylor - because of the scale of the ships I had to scale the pattern up.  Some Heather Ross dots also sneaked in there - they are cannon balls apparently.  I was fortunate to win the Dots in a giveaway by Go Go Kim.


Now to decide how to quilt it - any ideas?

I have now joined another swap and it is for a mini quilt with my blog name on it.  Many of the quilts in the Flickr group look far to complicated - both for me to make and also to incorporate a name.  I have tried to choose ones where I can place a name and the quilt still look good.

I love the first 3 and the rainbow clouds, perhaps with a border and I like the Syko/scandinavian influenced ones.

Mouthy Stitches Zippy Pouch Swap

Susan who blogs over at Canadian Abroad encouraged me to join this swap and I'm looking forward to it.
This is the first mosaic I've ever made - took a while and I love everything in it - especially the top left one...and the bottom left....and number 12....and....hint hint!  Thanks for the help in creating a mosaic from Kat.

Secret Santa

I can now show you some of my handmade Christmas gifts. This is a Bento Lunch Bag from Ayumi's fantastic tutorial on Pink Penguin.  The instructions were very clear and I saved the small triangles cut from the base of the bag to make "tags" on the ribbons.  When I make it next time I would cut the interfacing 1/4 inch smaller to lessen the bulk in the seams.

The bag was made from 2 tea towls from the V&A Feldman range, a 1954 reproduction of David Whitehead Ltd of Rawtenstall, Lancashire.  It is lined with the pink gingham oilcloth and a wee bit of Orla Kiely for the top cover.

This little pouch is inspired by Poppy Treffry (love, love love Poppy Treffry and she has a fantastic book too).  I used the instructions in "The Bag Making Bible" by Lisa Lam of U-handbag. I think I need a bit more practice on my free motion embroidery - though as my handwriting is pretty bad then there is not much hope!

 

 

......and this is for me ....but it's not finished yet.  I'm loving the linen with the bright colours.
