They were all quite small finishes, but some were very time consuming.<br />This apron was made using the cross back apron pattern on the Purl Soho blog. I used some beautiful linen that I bought in a charity shop in Sweden. So it brings back very happy memories of my trip last year.<br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9gZrp0z4qks/Vv1nni5gpkI/AAAAAAAABKs/klwu8PVbDQ4/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9gZrp0z4qks/Vv1nni5gpkI/AAAAAAAABKs/klwu8PVbDQ4/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='800' height='800' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />My round zip pouch finally got some binding and a cute charm. This is all hand stitched so it was something different and I'll probably make another in a similar style.<br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-TDsbZXkkjlE/Vv1nqRIG9uI/AAAAAAAABKw/kMnhsu-wYuY/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-TDsbZXkkjlE/Vv1nqRIG9uI/AAAAAAAABKw/kMnhsu-wYuY/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='800' height='800' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />The socks that took forever .... Just in case you are not on Instagram.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I've made a Bionic Gear Bag which is like a "go large" version of the Sew Together bag.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The embroidered bee is from the "Little Quilts" book by Sarah Fielke and I managed to use up some of the beautiful vintage sheets from the swap organised by Mary Emmens. I added the Angelina fibre to the wings and it gives them a lovely shine.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm not one for mini quilts as at the moment I've no wall for them, I prefer thinks that are useful .... Though Tim does now ask as to how many zip pouches do I actually need. But need has nothing to do with it, I just like making them! So my next one won't have a zip ... As this has 4 internal zip pockets.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Next I plan to make a Japanese loop bag as I'm enjoying my Kantha stitching but that will be another post.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I spent ages trying to decide on a binding and this was the best but as it was a fat quarter I didn't have a piece for the binding that was 24" and the pattern said to trim to fit the 22" zip, so I bodged it and trimmed the zip a little. I should have then put longer zip tab ends on but I'll know for next time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I also ripped the zip out as the way it was layered in the pattern meant that I'd be hand sewing the binding onto the top edge of the zip, so I reordered it. Outer - zip - binding and then stitched, much neater :o)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I also made tab ends for each of the zips, I will make them a bit longer next time too but they do reduce the bulk in the side seam and give the bag a lovely finish.</span><br />

I found the free pattern for this<a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/quilting/home-decor/the-flower-of-life/19795?_ct=fhezusj-tujqyb-fqjjuhd-ydifyhqjyed&_ctp=19795" target="_blank"> "Flower of Life" quilt on Craftsy</a> and knew that I wanted to make it for the Instagram Mini Swap.<br />
I originally thought that I would needle turn appliqué it, but it was taking too long and so I turned all the edges under and then machine appliquéd it. Raw edge with Bondaweb would have been much simpler and have a similar effect.<br />

I traced the leaves with a Frixion pen on sand paper to stop them wriggling around too much.<br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When the theme of wood was announced we had just been </span><a href="https://www.geocaching.com/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Geocaching</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> and I'd found this cute little wooden toadstool in one of the caches near to Stanton Drew, south of Bristol. In Geocaching, you can take something out if you leave something else behind, so we are leaving a variety of plastic zoo animals. If someone followed us around the same caches then they would have a whole set of animals. Stanton Drew has some standing stones and it's a lovely area to go walking, we saw honeycomb in a hollow tree that had come down with the wind....but Tim was stung by a bee before we had time to investigate it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyway I thought the toadstool would look lovely on a scrappy pouch with some embroidery. I've had the </span><a href="http://cinderberrystitches.typepad.com/cinderberrystitches/2011/05/its-arrived-and-in-stores-now.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Cotton Floss embroidery book</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> by Nathalie Lymer for quite a while, so I embroidered the toadstools, adjusting the pattern slightly as I don't like satin stitch.</span><br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26526359@N06/16757468633" title="I've finished this #embroidery from #cottonfloss by #natalielymer I changed it a bit as I hate doing satin stitch #🍄handmade #lechallenge by Indianna, on Flickr"><img alt="I've finished this #embroidery from #cottonfloss by #natalielymer I changed it a bit as I hate doing satin stitch #🍄handmade #lechallenge" height="500" src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5450/16757468633_bab9ac5511.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Chase has a lovely free pattern for a scrappy mini iPad pouch on her </span><a href="http://quarterinchmark.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/tutorial-mini-ipad-pouch.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Quarter Inch blog</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> so I based mine on that, but enlarged it slightly.</span><br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26526359@N06/17490029282" title="Lovely embroidery pattern from #cinderberrystitches ❤️ Pouch pattern by @quarterinchmark #lechallenge #scraptastictuesday #itsharderthanitlookstomakescrapsplaynice by Indianna, on Flickr"><img alt="Lovely embroidery pattern from #cinderberrystitches ❤️ Pouch pattern by @quarterinchmark #lechallenge #scraptastictuesday #itsharderthanitlookstomakescrapsplaynice" height="500" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8833/17490029282_20ce73cd75.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I spent some time trying to get the scraps to look right, swapped a few in and a few out and eventually I was happyish. I find it quite hard get the scraps to play nicely together but I love the style. I enjoy doing the hand quilting which I marked out using the rounded edge of a metal knife as I've no Hera marker and Frixion pen leaves white marks on dark fabrics. The knife worked really quite well and I'll use the same next time. I put a dab of glue on the back of the wooden toadstool and then did some colonial knots through the holes to hold it in place. Unfortunately I snipped the corners off the outer pouch to make them neater when turning, forgetting that the hand quilting was fastened off in the corner, so hopefully a dab of glue will keep it from unravelling!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm also linking to Scraptastic Tuesday as this is such a great tutorial for using up 2" scraps.</span><br />

</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Sewing has been a tradition in my family for many years. My maternal grandmother was a tayloress and my mum is very good with a sewing machine too. They both had quite modern Singer machines for the time. My Grandma's machine had discs that slotted into the top to give a variety of different stitches. I still have it hidden away in a cupboard. That is unfortunately a tradition I've inherited is to keep everything, hoard it away ..... For just incase!!!!My mum made lots of my clothes and she would make soft toys to sell in my Aunts grocery shop, I especially remember the rabbits at Easter.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />

</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My Grandma made this doll for me about 40 years ago and my mum has just made me the rabbit that was in a recent edition of Love Patchwork and Quilting.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My dad was a telecom engineer and my Granddad worked in Layland Motors making trucks. My mum also worked in a bank, Both were good at maths and very logical.</span><br />

</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have inherited from all a love of maths and sewing! So I've combined the two when I was pattern testing this bag for Katy. I love the maths print fabric which was from my LQS and thought it was ideal to make a messenger bag from, with a little Melody Miller to add some sparkle.</span><br />

<br />
When the Le Challenge subject was announced as Passion for this month I immediately thought of Passion Fruit. Not having much fabric with passion fruits on them I thought it might be included on this Juicy fabric from Makower....there's everything there except passion which will have to be included in the Tropical fruits! I though the Nicey Jane stripe fabric matched brilliantly and was great for the draw string cover. I save the cut off bits from when I boxed the corners to finish off the draw string cord.<br />
<br />

<br />
I made the bag for Jenny who is @<a href="https://instagram.com/patchworkmummy/" target="_blank">patchworkmummy on Instagram</a> as part of a #makeafriend swap organised by <a href="https://instagram.com/willowbeckdesigns/?ref=badge" target="_blank">Di Willowbeck</a>. The free tutorial for this Bento Box lunch bag is over on <a href="http://ayumills.blogspot.co.uk/2010/08/tutorial-lunch-bag.html" target="_blank">Ayumi's Pink Penguin blog</a>. This is the third one of these I've made and I love the wipe clean oil cloth interior, though you can't see it in the photo I found some lovely Anna Maria Horner Loulouthi laminated fabric in House of Fraser that is ideal for these bags.<br />
<br />
The bag I received from Jenny is absolutely awesome .... But I can't show you as the pattern is being published in a book in December. So unfortunately you will all have to wait ... though I can,t wait to see what is in the rest of the book if this zip bag is anything to go by :o)<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26526359@N06/16813795225" title="Here's the little spring bag I made for @patchworkmummy using @quarterinchmark brilliant pattern. #makefriendsswap by Indianna, on Flickr"><img alt="Here's the little spring bag I made for @patchworkmummy using @quarterinchmark brilliant pattern. #makefriendsswap" height="500" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8676/16813795225_5f264ea017.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
I also made Jenny a spring Kin-cha-ku bag from a pattern bought from Chase, <a href="http://quarterinchmark.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">1/4" mark blog</a>. I love hand quilting these and I'm hoping to build up a few pieced bag outers so that I can quilt them while we are away in our van. The Lecien cheater fabric is brilliant for this and complements the Bonnie and Camille Happy Go Lucky yellow squares. Jenny has just set up an online fabric shop "<a href="https://instagram.com/sewsmilefabrics/" target="_blank">Sew Smile Fabrics</a> " and has a lovely selection of Miss Kate and some Moda scrap bags at a great price.<br />
<br />
Both these bags were made from scraps that I have bought and that's why I had to do some pattern matching on the pear fabric but really happy how it turned out. Linking up to Scraptastictuesday too.<br />

At the last meeting in Exeter of the South West Stitchers I saw <a href="http://verykerryberry.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Kerry</a> had a beautifully made little draw string bag for all her sewing bits and bobs. It was made by Chase from <a href="http://quarterinchmark.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/quarter-inch-mark-studio-presents-kin.html" target="_blank">Quarter Inch Mark</a> who also sells a pattern for the Kin-Cha-Ku in her <a href="http://etsy.me/1wfXelc" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a>.<br />
The pattern was well illustrated with lots of photos and very easy to follow. I love the fact it was hand quilted as this adds a lovely texture to the finished bag.<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26526359@N06/16041353092/" title="My machine is packed away for family Christmas get together today, so back to hand quilting 😊 by Indianna Dreams, on Flickr"><img alt="My machine is packed away for family Christmas get together today, so back to hand quilting 😊" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7575/16041353092_31f9aec1a7.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
I'm not sure how it ended up this colour as I started out with the scrap of the little deer and the Heather Ross mermaids. I put one row in upside down, but I left it as it was, as it was meant to be. I quilted it with Coats Dual Duty Hand Quilting thread as it was available from Trago for a reasonable £2.95. Only when I got it home did I find out that it's not cotton, but a polyester blend. It looks ok though.<br />

Last month I went up to the West Country Quilt Show in Bristol. A fantastic show with lots of quilts on display and a variety of workshops to attend. There was also the usual trader stalls with lots of bargains .... But unfortunately not many people were there on the Friday that myself and <a href="http://quirkyhannah.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">QuirkyHannah</a> visited.<br />
I went to a Kantha workshop run by Angela Daymond from the <a href="http://fenlandtextilestudio.co.uk/" target="_blank">Fenland Textile Studio</a>. There was only two of us and Angela provided a wonderful bag of fabrics and a variety of threads.<br />
All the fabric and lace, some of it vintage, had been dyed using natural dyes. These included red onion skins, tulips, turmeric, woad and one I might try ... Boiling fabric in an aluminium pan with a variety of berries. The aluminium from the pan fixes the dye.<br />
Angela explained about the history of Kantha and how it was used to make a new cloth from old saris. Traditionally it is all running stitch with different areas of Southern Asia having a different style.<br />
I found making this very relaxing as there wasn't a specific design to follow and the stitches don't have to be accurate or all the same length.<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26526359@N06/15832019430" title="I love the texture of this #kanthaembroidery #lechallenge by Indianna, on Flickr"><img alt="I love the texture of this #kanthaembroidery #lechallenge" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7563/15832019430_229ac32231.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
I knew I wanted to turn this into a book cover, but unfortunately it wasn't quite big enough and so I added the extra red onion skin piece at the bottom left and also the piece above it. I use a random cross stitch with some beautiful threads which I bought from the Cowslip Workshop christmas fair. The threads are hand painted to make them variegated in lovely colours. I used an old shirt for the inside of the cover and decorated it with some rarely used machine embroidery stitch. I added the lace as I can then tuck extra bits and pieces inside the cover.<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26526359@N06/15397388414" title="upload by Indianna, on Flickr"><img alt="upload" height="500" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8568/15397388414_6f372c0e37.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
The theme for <a href="http://le-challenge.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/le-challenge-18-ink.html" target="_blank">Le Challenge</a> this month is Ink and so I'm linking up with Nat and Lucy. <br />

<br />
I've loved looking through the Patchwork Please book and so a couple of months ago I attempted the Box Pouch using a Moda Scrap Bag. There was a sew along when the book first came out and so there was some advice on various blogs. Some said they made it without many problems ... But I found it quite difficult to make.<br />
The book says that there is a 1/2" seam allowance, but the triangle pattern has a 1/4" seam. I sewed all of it with 1/4", this was probably where I went wrong!<br />
I wasn't sure how to attach the top zip panel to the sides, but Alyce from <a href="http://www.blossomheartquilts.com/2013/08/triangle-patchwork-box-pouch-tips-aka-sweetpouchfail/" target="_blank">Blossom Heart Quilts</a> explains on her blog that you sew it on the same as you mitre the corners when doing a quilt binding ... that then made sense.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-XmglpuysWhI/VGJfEoN5_dI/AAAAAAAABJY/BNYSN8WqSyU/s288/iphone_photo.jpg"><img border="0" height="543" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-XmglpuysWhI/VGJfEoN5_dI/AAAAAAAABJY/BNYSN8WqSyU/s288/iphone_photo.jpg" style="margin: 5px;" width="405" /></a></center>
<br />
The outer came together ok, but then the lining didn't fit :o(<br />
<br />
<center>
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GSpyCw2R6-I/VGJfHl8C7CI/AAAAAAAABJg/emzbW_ksLcg/s288/iphone_photo.jpg"><img border="0" height="543" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GSpyCw2R6-I/VGJfHl8C7CI/AAAAAAAABJg/emzbW_ksLcg/s288/iphone_photo.jpg" style="margin: 5px;" width="405" /></a></center>
<br />
I left it the right way out for ages and it looked very nice ... But I couldn't use it. Then at the weekend I finally stitched an extra panel in the lining to fix this hole. It's still very badly fitting ... But once filled with stuff it is ok.<br />
<br />

<br />
Today I went to "Stitch Club" and filled it with bits to finish the clamshell block for my Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt .... Or Grean Beans and Rich Tea as we have been calling it! <br />
I love the boxy look of the bag, but I won't be making another one for a while. I will try out some of the other box pouch tutorials first.<br />

<br />
I've loved seeing blocks from the Japanese version of this book over the past couple of years. So when it was published in English I knew I had to buy it. I was even happier when I found out that Allegory from <a href="http://athousandneedles.com/2014/10/318qal-kickoff-full-schedule-giveaway/" target="_blank">athousandneedles</a> blog was organising a blog hop which included some of my favourite bloggers!<br />
<br />
<center>
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-d3nhy0LPFmc/VFe-K5cadKI/AAAAAAAABIw/QvStrUjf57w/s288/iphone_photo.jpg"><img border="0" height="543" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-d3nhy0LPFmc/VFe-K5cadKI/AAAAAAAABIw/QvStrUjf57w/s288/iphone_photo.jpg" style="margin: 5px;" width="430" /></a></center>
<br />
So I though I'd try the easiest blocks first and make them 4". As I don't have a scanner or access to a photocopier I took a photo of the block as square as I could and then put it into word before scaling and printing. I was also able to reverse the Ice cream cone to paper piece it. There are not many directions in the book as to 'how to do this' and so the blog hop has been useful.<br />
<br />
<br />
<center>
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-dVBH8skAq04/VFe-NBq1q6I/AAAAAAAABI4/_2R9g5RtXj0/s288/iphone_photo.jpg"><img border="0" height="500" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-dVBH8skAq04/VFe-NBq1q6I/AAAAAAAABI4/_2R9g5RtXj0/s288/iphone_photo.jpg" style="margin: 5px;" width="500" /></a></center>
<br />
All went well with the first two blocks, once I realised I'd have to add boarders to finish them off, and so being Halloween I thought I'd make the cat and cake at 5". I printed the pictures directly onto freezer paper which I'd cut to A4 size and they came out fine..... But the cat has beaten me.... It's just too small, so I've moved onto the cake but it's not finished as I wasted loads of time messing with the cat :o(<br />
<br />
<br />
<center>
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-OmEY1PTPWDc/VFe-PgmTZII/AAAAAAAABJA/33-Kdh3PKmA/s288/iphone_photo.jpg"><img border="0" height="543" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-OmEY1PTPWDc/VFe-PgmTZII/AAAAAAAABJA/33-Kdh3PKmA/s288/iphone_photo.jpg" style="margin: 5px;" width="405" /></a></center>
<br />
I will return to the cat after a bit more practice at freezer paper piecing as described on <a href="http://verykerryberry.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/318-patchwork-patterns-how-to-freezer.html" target="_blank">Kerry's blog</a>. I have a plan to turn these into 3 nesting boxes using 4", 5" and 6" blocks. I need 12 finished blocks so I'll try again to finish the cake.<br />
If you have this book....and some of you must as when I checked Amazon it said only 2 copies remaining, then why not join in the blog hop?<br />
EDIT ... The book also includes a really useful alphabet and so they were quite quick to piece, although those pesky skulls gave me some trouble. in the end I was just happy that they were the right way up!<br />

We had seen samples of <a target="_blank" href="http://www.textileillustration.co.uk">Cat Rowe's</a> work at the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cowslipworkshops.co.uk">Cowslip Christmas Fair</a> last year and I had bought a lovely calendar. <br />Cat lives in Cornwall and usually teaches smaller groups, but 16 of us all had a fabulous day and hopefully didn't give her too much trouble! We also had a lovely shared lunch but I didn't get any photos of that.<br />This is what I achieved on the day, lots of Bondaweb and fiddley cutting and sticking. Cat had many useful tips about the best fabrics and how to best cut out the smaller parts. Thankfully all the bees were very patient in waiting for them. I thought I should stitch them in order, but Rachel, Mamafairy had asked for flower blocks in 3 sizes and I'd just borrowed a quilt book from Quilt Club with this Rose of Sharon block....so that was first.<br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-IlpBc3azFpA/U9Zhb5PDZ6I/AAAAAAAABD8/O6NLH2FLFFc/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-IlpBc3azFpA/U9Zhb5PDZ6I/AAAAAAAABD8/O6NLH2FLFFc/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='450' height='450' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />The colours Rachel sent me were suitable for a daffodil, so I found a pattern online, although it was for a 6" square block, so I added longer leaves and a bias stem, once I'd found my Clover bias maker.<br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jtW35Pl8j-g/U9ZheqnUFoI/AAAAAAAABEE/LCkY9LulUHY/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jtW35Pl8j-g/U9ZheqnUFoI/AAAAAAAABEE/LCkY9LulUHY/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='336' height='450' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />I was also looking through Carina's new book Stitched Blooms and I thought that this embroidery pattern would translate beautifully into an appliqué. The book is great as it comes with a CD and so you can print off the design any size you like, 6" square. All of them were top stitched with Aurifil 40 wt, yummy.<br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-e5Ng5aSaliM/U9ZhhFBsNTI/AAAAAAAABEM/bzp5pCWb8dk/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-e5Ng5aSaliM/U9ZhhFBsNTI/AAAAAAAABEM/bzp5pCWb8dk/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='336' height='450' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-OsAZJe2NA4U/U9Zhj9dXxHI/AAAAAAAABEU/tk77-zbimzc/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-OsAZJe2NA4U/U9Zhj9dXxHI/AAAAAAAABEU/tk77-zbimzc/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='336' height='450' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />I found these ones for Jill, The Nocturnal Stitcher, the hardest as I'd already seen some brilliant designs in the Flickr group, but with limited fabric, I also didn't want to mess up. I found a lovely tutorial on YouTube of how to piece improv curves and took it from there. Unfortunately my second block didn't have enough fabric to make 12" and so I added the best beach fabric I had. I think they look quite cute and will make a lovely picnic blanket.<br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-rwdKRwXprlc/U9Zhlm6oe6I/AAAAAAAABEc/BLT8kh0Nr1k/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-rwdKRwXprlc/U9Zhlm6oe6I/AAAAAAAABEc/BLT8kh0Nr1k/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Uf0GOHsYdvg/U9Zhn2dZs4I/AAAAAAAABEk/eYV7rMxSQKg/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Uf0GOHsYdvg/U9Zhn2dZs4I/AAAAAAAABEk/eYV7rMxSQKg/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />These two paperpieced blocks were for Second Chance Tan for her mums quilt. I chose to make these scrappy mini stars using Cindy's tutorial on the Fluffy Sheep Blog. I bought 2 Lark Jelly Rolls...but unfortunately they are nothing like Moda ones. Some of the strips are barely 2.25". So I'm expecting to have to put lots of iron on interfacing on the back to stop little holes appearing :o(<br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-wTKUML7kUcU/U9ZhvLJNYvI/AAAAAAAABE0/JAsMo3ChjTs/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-wTKUML7kUcU/U9ZhvLJNYvI/AAAAAAAABE0/JAsMo3ChjTs/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='297' height='450' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />We have one month left in the Bee and then unfortunately due to busy lives we are all buzzing off in different directions to do different things. <br />
I made this tiny broach from some Liberty Scraps and embroidered it using Aurifil 40 weight. French knots using fine thread were so tiny that they kept popping to the back of the fabric. Jodie who designs the lovely RicRac patterns had this cute Dachshund embroidery pattern as a free pattern available on <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/embroidery/hand-embroidery/simply-sausages-embroidery-and-rattle/79358" target="_blank">Craftsy</a>. It was supposed to be much larger, but I used the small illustration and he turned out about two inches long.<br />
It might be a bit big to wear as a broach, but ideal to attach to a bag or put in a frame. I put him on the front of a card and sent him away to a friend who I know likes the Hens Teeth designs, so he is inspired by those lovely creations.<br />
I really enjoyed making him and I can see myself making more in the future as they are ideal to make while away in the van. I just need to think what to print on the top tape...perhaps ... "I love sewing", with a sewing machine or a bobbin? Or "I love the beach"?<br />

Linking up just in time to Le Challenge, why don't you link up with Lucy and Nat something tiny you have made, as there's a chance to win $25, I'm keeping my fingers crossed x<br />
Ps sorry if you have read this twice as I put it on my travel blog "<a href="http://libertybluevan.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Liberty Blue Van</a>" by mistake<div class="blogger-post-footer">

We both seem to attract midges, with very big teeth!<br /><br />I found the perfect BRIGHT neon blue spotty binding for the top and bottom. Sorry girls, it's a very tenuous link!!<br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/04/15/521.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/04/15/s_521.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />We've known for ages that we wanted a midge net, but the problem was also how to attach it to the van. Amazon had the answer, little magnets with hooks, but with a 20kg pull, enough to go through the van carpet lining. Well it's now been tested and it works perfectly.<br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/04/15/522.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/04/15/s_522.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='276' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />The net needed a cute little drawstring bag. I wanted it to be unlined and I found this brilliant tutorial on <a target="_blank" href="http://aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com/2014/01/back-to-school-mini-drawstring-pouch/">aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com</a>. The bottom is like the base of a coffee bag, which gives it some depth, without having to cut the corners off. You might be able to see what I mean in the top photo. It was such a good tutorial that I made a matching one for my down jacket, that I picked up in T K Max for a bargain £16.<br />These are the first things that I've made from this camping organic Birch fabric and I was very disappointed that the brown dye, left marks in my green water when I ironed it :o(<br />I will be washing the whole lot, before I use it in anything else.<br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/04/15/523.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/04/15/s_523.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />....and other news, I didn't finish anything in my finish along list, despite its length, but I did start something else new. I've been embroidering the Best Friends Forever block of the month and managed one a week, so far! <br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/04/15/524.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/04/15/s_524.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />I'm also slowly stitching EPP diamonds into stars and love the pattern already. These are both great hand stitching projects to have along in the van with me and it's nice to have the time to sit and sew. Other British 'vanners' are complaining about the loss of the BBC transmission to their satellite dish...wot no East Enders!!! Not a problem for us though.<br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/04/15/525.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/04/15/s_525.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='259' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><p class='blogpress_location'>Location:<a href='http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Alvor&z=10'>Alvor</a></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">

My friend ordered one of these to give to her friend as a birthday present. It's a drawstring bag for putting campervan thermal window mats in.... They needed a nice case so I used the tutorial over on Lilipopo's blog. She has some lovely embroidery patterns and they are a style that I find adorable....plus she lives in Cornwall. <br />I used a tiny, tiny scrap of Liberty fabric for her dress and as Sarah is encouraging us to put our scraps to work this year then I am linking up at the end of the month.<br />I'm also just in time to link up with <a target="_blank" href="http://craftyshenanigans.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/tgiff-is-here-plus-giveaway.html">Amy</a>, who is hosting TGIFF this week. I hoped to have this finished by Friday but had a bit of the sniffles that I brought back from our Valentine trip to Bristol.<br /><iframe src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26526359@N06/12370496845/player/ff9c81afb8" height="400" width="400" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen oallowfullscreen msallowfullscreen></iframe><br />Tim's Valentines card was found in a charity shop while hunting for vintage sheets. It's like a simplified game of Beetle.<br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/02/23/621.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/02/23/s_621.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />Although I have loads of WIP's .... I seem to have started another one! I didn't feel like concentrating on much last week and as my very thoughtful friend <a target="_blank" href="http://karenbarlow.blogspot.co.uk">Karen</a> had bought me this for Christmas I had another look through it. I love the travel quilt idea as we are always off out and about in Libby our little campervan, blogged at <a target="_blank" href="http://libertybluevan.blogspot.co.uk">LibertyBlueVan</a>. <br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/02/23/622.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/02/23/s_622.jpg' border='0' width='237' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />They are 2" diamonds and stitch up quite quickly. I've completed 3, but cut and basted quite a few more.<br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/02/23/623.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/02/23/s_623.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />Though these all look coordinated, as I've used the remains of a Moda Scrap Bag, I think the rest will be quite scrappy. I don't have many scraps, as some of you know, I've been swapping, buying, begging and borrowing scraps from everyone...can you borrow scraps??? I'm not sure. Anyway it's a great project as you can see below the selvedge gets turned under and the maths geek in me worked out that the minimum strip width, to give 1/4 inch seam, is 2.23".... Do you remember SOHCAHTOA?<br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/02/23/624.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/02/23/s_624.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />Years ago I found these in a charity shop and they are great for fussy cutting.<br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/02/23/625.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/02/23/s_625.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />Jessica also has a link up on her blog, <a target="_blank" href="http://lifeunderquilts.blogspot.co.uk">Lifeunderquilts</a> for how many stars are finished My Total = 3<br /><div align="center"><br /><a href="http://fairyfacedesigns.blogspot.ie/p/blog-page.html" title="FairyFace Designs"><img src="http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j433/FairyFaceDesigns/DSCN7125.jpg" alt="FairyFace Designs" style="border:none;" /></a></div><br /><br /><a title="TGIFF!" href="http://tgiffriday.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Cil-o-zvINfo2Xemo5RzSoc_DY5Vl1IztOFVRn3q5wK_FXX0zEzHQI1M1pIldzTymI2il_No9oN3l5JxGE6FZhAz45M-payF7vWmzlXcnMiCkPz7wTmhitL2sesbBNFR6jTQYWKFHCkf/s800/tgiff-button-plain.jpg"/></a><br /><br /><div class="blogger-post-footer">

It was a small piece of lovely Art Gallery fabric which reminded me of a kimono.<br />I used the pattern from Homespun Magazine issue 15.1 for the little Kokeshi Doll. The pattern had 3 strung on a string, but I only had enough fabric for one. <br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/02/15/1048.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/02/15/s_1048.jpg' border='0' width='203' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />I used a different fabric to line her sleeves. Each of the dolls has a different hair style, but this was my favourite. She is only 6 inches tall but has a big personality!<br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/02/15/1049.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/02/15/s_1049.jpg' border='0' width='188' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />The pattern is available in the <a target="_blank" href="http://mellyandme.com/products-page/patterns/">Melly and Me shop</a> and includes a cuddle size mama Kokeshi.<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/02/15/1050.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/02/15/s_1050.jpg' border='0' width='191' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />I would have loved to make something from this Japanese book that I got at the Cowslip Workshop Christmas fair for £1 ... But it will be more of a long term project as it's quite complicated. I googled the isbn number and eventually found out that this type of Japanese reversible patchwork is called Orinuno. I will have a go at it as it is all done by hand and so it will be a good portable project for me.<br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=14/02/15/1051.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/14/02/15/s_1051.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />Linking up with Le Challenge ... Why don't you pop over and check out what Lucy and Nat have made, as well as the other links.<br />Also linking with the Slow Bloggers as I'm averaging less than one a month at the moment as Instagram seems so much quicker, but I appreciate that not everyone is on IG. Also I can't leave links on IG either.<br /><a target="_blank" href="http://kettleboiler.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/got-any-grapes.html">Moira</a> is hosting the Slow Bloggers this month.<br /><br /><div class="blogger-post-footer">

When I look back through my blog posts it appears to be the thing that has kept me blogging this year. Like others my enthusiasm for Blogging has taken a dip but then I remember how precious online blog friends are and it keeps me going.<br /><br />Cindy recently wrote a tutorial for a fantastic block when I was having trouble visualising how it was made....to me that is very precious. Thanks Cindy, I've made a block already and in this picture stolen from <a target="_blank" href="http://fluffysheepquilting.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/scrappy-mini-stars-tutorial.html">Fluffy Sheep Quilting </a>Blog you can see how the hidden stars appear.<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/12/15/172.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/12/15/s_172.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='395' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/12/15/173.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/12/15/s_173.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='214' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />And on to precious number two.....<br />Sarah is expecting Little Beany and so she had an online Baby Shower which you can read all about here on her blog <a target="_blank" href="http://narcolepticinacupboard.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/beanys-baby-shower.html">Narcoleptic in a cupboard.</a><br />I thought Sarah would like a little happy cloud and so I made this from a tutorial on <a target="_blank" href="http://hello-refabulous.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/happy-cloud-baby-toy-tutorial.html">Refabulous</a> Blog. It was easy to follow....though I did sew all those little strips on the wrong way up the first time...I should follow the instructions!<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/12/15/174.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/12/15/s_174.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='550' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div class="blogger-post-footer">

When Nathalie and Lucy announced that the <a href="http://le-challenge.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Le Challenge</a> this month was Heroes, I immediately thought about Super Ted. We still have a glow in the dark Super Ted and Spottyman on the wall in what was "The Girls" room. I'm not too sure what our visitors now think of them!<br />

<br />
My partner, <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/pekkaboo/" target="_blank">Sandy in Buenos Aires</a>, for the Fab Little Pin Cushion swap received this super cute little bat from me. Though he is only small, one day he will grow and be as awesome as his hero Batman! (...poor link I know, but it's the best I can do!)<br />
Sometimes I can search for ages on the Interweb for a suitable pattern, but as soon as I saw this, I knew I had to buy it. The pattern is by <a href="http://sotosewn.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Maritza Soto @Soto Sew</a> and available in her Etsy Shop. I reduced the pattern by 50%, if Sandy really wants to store pins and needles in him, then I hope she carefully puts them in his wings so as not to hurt him!<br />

I knew when <a target="_blank" href="http://made-inhome.blogspot.co.uk/">Nathalie</a> swapped me this butterfly fabric a while ago that my mum would love it....I just had to decide what to make with it. Charlotte who blogs over at Displacement Activity has a great tutorial to make a <a target="_blank" href="http://charlottenewland.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/tea-bag-wallet-tutorial.html">tea bag wallet</a>, very easy and quick to make, but looks very impressive. Well I think so anyway.<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/08/30/863.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/08/30/s_863.jpg' border='0' width='191' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />This week there has also been some Bramble and Apple jelly making....after picking 3kg on a long walk. Last year I didn't make any until late September, so this is much earlier, but the berries weren't as juicy. I even squeezed the bag to get more juice, as <a target="_blank" href="http://indiannadreams.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/to-squeeze-or-not-to-squeeze.html">Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall</a> suggested, but still not as much as last year.<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/08/30/864.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/08/30/s_864.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='254' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />The first lot of fabric has turned up from <a target="_blank" href="http://sewmeblog.blogspot.co.uk/">Sarah</a>, from the HipBee and so now I have to put my thinking head on and make sure I don't mess up on my first month in the Bee.<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/08/30/865.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/08/30/s_865.jpg' border='0' width='180' height='172' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><div class="blogger-post-footer">

<br />
These paper pieced houses are from a free pattern on Craftsy. It was called holiday houses, as there was some snow on the roof and tree. I missed off the snow as Amy wanted a white background. Amy put a shout out for scrappy little houses for her wonky village. If you fancy making her a couple have a look <a href="http://craftyshenanigans.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/houses-houses-everywhere.html" target="_blank">over here</a> and I'm sure she will be grateful.<br />
<br />
I seem to have lost my blogging mojo since I was at the FatQuarterly Retreat in London. I think I was overwhelmed by all the talented ladies I met and by the amount of stuff I then had to blog about. I didn't speak much to "old" bloggy friends as unfortunately there just didn't seem time to talk to everyone. I made some lovely new friends and through visiting London I am now pleased to be in a bee..... With the HipBees....I just hope they will be patient and don't mind waiting a few weeks for their blocks if I'm away on my travels....which I will be soon. You can read all about where we go on my other <a href="http://libertybluevan.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">blog</a>.<br />

So, a short and sweet post, linking up with Liz to <a href="http://lizofdandeliondaydreams.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/its-my-favourite-day-of-week.html" target="_blank">Brit Thursday Sewing</a> and Paper Piecing Friday with Kristy...must be Friday in Australia!<br />
